چکیده

Wireless networking is the mostly used networking technique in this era of telecommunication.when the term wireless„comes, it reminds the importance of 802.11 mac protocol. For the rural areas like villages, 802.11 mac protocol plays a important role for networking because of its cost, which is very low as compared to the other networking. Moreover the mac protocol provides higher rate of data transfer. This paper shows the works for improvement of performance of 802.11 mac protocol. The simulation of new model is done using ns-2.the network simulator ns-2 is frequently used for simulation of wireless lan ieee 802.11 protocol. About half of the publications are based on results which ns-2 has produced. Here the project works are done using version 2.33 of ns-2 which contains more extensions as compared to the previous version.

A Multi-channel MAC Protocol for Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

This paper proposes a medium access control (MAC) protocol for ad hoc wireless networks that can utilize multiple channels dynamically to improve performance. IEEE 802.11 standard provides multiple channels for use, but its MAC protocol is designed only for a single channel. We can achieve improved throughput with multiple channels because multiple transmissions can take place simultaneously wi...

Comparison of IEEE 802.3 & IEEE802.11 MAC Protocol EEET1149 LOCAL AND METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORKS LECTURER:

The IEEE 802.3 and 802.11 standards are used to define CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) based on the Ethernet LAN (Local Area Networks) and Wireless LAN (WLAN) protocol, respectively. This report deals with the comparison of IEEE 802.3 and IEEE802.11 MAC protocol in terms of the physical and medium access control (MAC) layer. CSMA/CD Ethernet-based protocol is th...

802.11 Fingerprinting to Detect Wireless Stealth Attacks

We propose a simple, passive and deployable approach for fingerprinting traffic on the wired side as a solution for three critical stealth attacks in wireless networks. We focus on extracting traces of the 802.11 medium access control (MAC) protocol from the temporal arrival patterns of incoming traffic streams as seen on the wired side, to identify attacker behavior. Attacks addressed include ...

Mitigating the exposed node problem in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks

We describe enhancements to the IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC Protocol which enable nodes to identify themselves as exposed nodes and to opportunistically schedule concurrent transmissions whenever possible, thereby improving utilization and mitigating the exposed node problem. The algorithm makes minimal changes to the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. It does not require the introduction of new frame types or ...
